I know that in order to take over an enemy planet, you have to reduce the strength of that planet to 0. But as far as I can tell, the only way to do this is to destroy the enemy ships and stations, and this takes FOREVER! I've been trying to take over the Trey system from Earth, and it's strength is at 2100 after 45 mintues of being in the system. I even left my ships on search and destroy, left the room to have supper for 30 min and when I got back it had only fallen by 600 strength. There has got to be a faster way to take over a planet then this.
Does anyone have any tips/strategies for me? Thanks

I've been browsing the forums, but I couldn't really find a clear answer on that (probably just didn't read the correct thread). But since this is apparently a commonly asked question AND a large part of the game, I don't suppose there is someplace that actually goes into detail on how you capture enemy systems? The game manual devotes all of 1/2 a sentence to this topic: "Find an empty (uninhabited) planet, or destroy its government to force it to become empty, then fly up to it and open the player control panel and click “Transport”. " No mention on how you destroy it's government. So far the only thing I could figure out was to leave the system and come back to it over and over and over and over again for several hours before it's worn down (which is what I finally did). Can someone without a wrist cramp elaborate?

gather a large fleet, antagonise the system until your prestige drops below 0%. Now all stations and system ships are automatically your enemy and will target you. You leave, and leave your fleet there to mop up while you go somewhere else.
I've done this before and a bug in the game caused systems with 3000-8000 strength lose everything in 1 warp. I gained the Blender system in 1 warp. In 1 game I gained 5 systems this way, strength dropped from 3000+ to 0 in 1 warp.

i find the best way to take over a system by destroying it with your fleet is to simply flood the system. For every ship that is destroyed send in 5 more. Works for me.
