OK, played this game for a bit now... It's definitely addictivie, though not always as fun (ever tried taking down a 9000 defense system when you have to hunt their ships down one by one, just because your 25+ fleet of elite ships (Galaxy Dreadnaughts, I mean) can't reduce it more than 40 per warp? I have!).
Anyways... I found a somewhat easier way to take over planets.
Once upon a time, my wittle old ship flew to Ferenginar and dropped an away team there, to find out that I have destroyed the dreadful None(?!) government that was threatening the Ferengi, and thusly am now made the grand bubba of the planet. >.>;
I wasn't really sure what I did, but I did my best to find out.
If you want to take over a planet, you must have an allied threaty with its government, and 100+ prestige in the specific system. It is possible that you may need some power rating (I was a Galactic Emperor at the time the Ferengi gave in), too.
Also - it'd seem you have to take out a specific enemy government for this to work. For instance, this is Bajora in the case of Cardassians.
Taking out just any enemy of the government doesn't seem to work - for instance, everyone hates the Dominion, but taking it out will only help with the Romulan.
Still, this method is far more efficient than 'Kill 'em all!'.
Independent systems, the Ferengi, the Tholian, and the Andorian are easy pickings. Possibly Vulcans, too.
Taking out the Dominion allows Romulan emperorship.
Bajora for Cardassians and vice versa (as much as it pains me, the beutiful Bajoran system is much easier to take out than the numerous Cardassian ones...).
Earth for Klingons and vice versa, most probably (too lazy to try and do it).
The Lysians seem to want Earth taken out, but do you care?
Pretty much it, it seems.
Any comments?
